Insides   Out   Ltd   is   an   innovative   and   creative   company,   whose   aim is    to    work    with    industry,    medical    and    training    organisations    to provide    products;    to    inform    and    educate    patients,    staff    and communities.   Insides   Out   Ltd   creates   educational   training   aids,   to help demonstrate the impact of a variety of health issues. Through    education,    change    can    be    initiated;    enabling    a    more informed   community   to   take   an   active   role   in   supporting   their   own health needs. Public Health Need Insides    Out    Ltd    worked    in    partnership    with    Wessex   AHSN    and others,   identifying   a   need   to   educate   and   inform   communities   about alcohol   related   liver   disease;   indicated   by   the   UEG   as   a   growing concern, as below. ‘United   European   Gastroenterology   (UEG)   Press   Release’   21 November, 2014   UEG    is    supporting   Awareness    Week    on   Alcohol    Related    Harm (AWARH)    and    calls    for    greater    awareness    of    the    relationship between   alcohol   and   liver   cancer.   Excessive   alcohol   consumption can   lead   to   liver   cancer,   estimated   to   be   responsible   for   746,000 worldwide   deaths   each   year,   making   it   the   second   most   common cause   of   cancer   death.   Europe   is   by   far   the   biggest   drinking   region in the world. Harry    Potter    artists    create    3D    livers    for    Royal Surrey Hospital 15th November 2016 Michelle   Gallagher,   Clinical   Director   for   Medicine   and   Clinical   Lead for    Hepatology    Gastroenterology,    said:    “Regular    heavy    alcohol consumption can have a detrimental effect on your health. Patients    often    have    no    idea what    is    going    on    inside    their bodies      as      outwardly      they cannot    see    the    damage    they are doing.” “The   3D   livers   are   visually   very powerful    and    will    help    us    to illustrate   the   progression   of   the disease   to   patients   presenting with         hazardous         alcohol consumption    or    in    the    early stages   of   the   condition   where changing    behaviors’    can    halt the   development   to   advanced liver disease.” Staff    at    Hampshire    Hospitals    NHS    Foundation Trust Are        using H    a    r    r    y      P   o   t   t   e   r   - r   e   l   a   t   e   d     wizardry      to s      h      o      w        p   a   t   i   e   n   t   s     exactly   what l     i     v     e     r       d   a   m   a   g   e     looks like. B    e    c    k    y      O   s   b   o   r   n   ,     lead    alcohol nurse   at   the trust,      said: “The      livers h      a      v      e        a   l   r   e   a   d   y     proved   to   be very      useful and   we   have found     them to   be   a   real talking    point when         we have     public i  n  f  o  r  m  a  t  i  o  n    stands.” “We   will   use them           to s      h      o      w        patients    the e   f   f   e   c   t   s     alcohol     can have          on their        liver, e   d   u   c   a   t   e     staff         and i   m   p   r   o   v   e     a  w  a  r  e  n  e  s  s    in    the    wider community.” Hampshire   Hospitals   have   been   donated   the   ‘Drinks   Informed’   kit, which   has   been   provided   by   ‘Insides   Out   Ltd’   as   part   of   a   project being   run   by   Portsmouth   Hospitals   NHS   Trust,   Portsmouth   City Council,   The   Helen   Hamlyn   Centre   for   Design,   NHS   Innovations South East and the Wessex Academic Health Science Network.
